Westside AzTEA is a regional chapter of The Arizona Technology in Education Alliance, a professional organization devoted to technology in education and the learning/teaching process. Our mission is to empower the educational community in Arizona by providing leadership, promoting educational reform and supporting technology-based innovation through our services, activities, programs, and advocacy.

These thoughts may help to guide our goal setting. They are taken from the AzTEA Chapter Handbook which is part of the AzTEA Board Manual.

This organization is a non-profit educational organization whose purposes are:
• To provide a professional educational technology association within the state of Arizona
• To provide for the sharing and exchanging of ideas, techniques, materials, and procedures for use in educational computing.
• To promote general recognition of the vital professional role played by the educational computing profession and the high level of competence required for this role
• To promote and encourage appropriate use of computer systems for the improvement of instruction and educational management.
• To cooperate with manufacturers, distributors, and operators of educational computing
equipment and supplies in developing and maintaining proper technical standards, and in meeting new needs for specialized devices, systems and services.
• To encourage and advise appropriate organizations and individuals concerning research relating to educational computing.
• To encourage the development and improvement of instructional programs in computing.
• To promote professional standards in the field of educational computing.
• To encourage membership and participation in the International Society for Technology in Education.

The advantages of joining AzTEA as an organization include:

• Classroom-tested materials and resources for all grades and subject areas
• Conferences sponsored by the Alliance
• Discounts for affiliated conferences (group rates such as ISTE national conferences and
MEC and AzTEA)
• Opportunities for learning, growth, and communication * Keeping educators informed of the latest research, technology and teaching techniques
• Fostering creative partnerships with business and industry
• Professional committee opportunities. Peers and experts developing vision and policy for the future.
• Special Interest Groups (SIGs) through the Chapters - educators working together on
shared problems and solutions.

Goals for 2010-11 (not voted on yet)

  • Goal 1: Host events and use Elluminate, Wikispaces and website to share, showcase and explore the integration of technology, curriculum and innovative instructional strategies.
  • Goal 2: Increase participation and communication with membership and stakeholders using current technology tools and advertising the value of being an AzTEA member.
  • Goal 3: Host 9th Annual WOW Conference - 1st Virtual
  • Goal 4: Westside members will commit to offering and/or actively soliciting a monthly Elluminate webinar presentation for professional development.

Goals for 2009-10

Goal 1 - Host events and use Elluminate, Wikispaces and website to share, showcase and explore the integration of technology, curriculum and innovative instructional strategies.
Goal 2 - Increase participation and communication with membership and stakeholders using current technology tools and advertising the value of being an AzTEA member.
Goal 3 - Work collaboratively with the AzTEA Membership Committee to increase and retain membership by promoting the value of AzTEA.
Goal 4 – Host 8th annual WOW conference.


Goals for 2008-09

Goal 1 -Host events and use the wikispaces and website to share, showcase and explore the integration of technology, curriculum and innovative instructional strategies.

Goal 2-Improve communication with membership and stakeholders using current technology tools.

Goal 3-Host 7th annual WOW conference at new venue: Raymond Kellis High School, Peoria District
